| |
The 2nd International Symposium on Sport Dentistry and Dental Trauma, organized by the International Association of Dentistry and Sport (IADS) and the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Berne, took place on June 28-30, 2002 in Berne, Switzerland. Over 20 countries were represented. Speakers from Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, Canada, USA, Australia, Japan, France, Germany and Egypt presented topics on general aspects of sport dentistry, management and complications of dental trauma, cosmetic rehabilitation of traumatized teeth, implant therapy and the latest in research in sports dentistry.
We would like to especially thank the International Olympic Committee and Dr. Rene Fasel, President of the International Ice Hockey Federation for their support. If it were not for their financial assistance and backing this meeting would not have been as successful. We are also very appreciative of our corporate sponsors Medartis, Dreve-Dentamid Gmbh, Biora, Geistlich, Ultradent, Quintessenz and Straumann.
The opening day began with an ensemble of chamber music. The opening remarks by program chairman Dr. Daniel Buser and G. Walter, Vice Rector of the University of Berne set the tone for the meeting. These were followed by a most timely presentation by IOC President Jacques Rogge on the Challenges of the Third Millennium and the Olympic Movement. Needless to say sports medicine is high on their list. We were especially grateful for being included in President Rogge's busy schedule as he was on his way to the World Cup Finals in Japan.
