Objectives

  1. To pool resources and knowledge in order to promote the development of the ultimate lecture series in Sport and Protective Dentistry.

  2. To work as a group with other health professionals such as physicians, trainers, and therapists to ensure that as many amateur and professional athletes as possible are aware of and have access to the best mouth protection and trauma treatment available.

  3. To enhance existing and developing lectures, seminars, articles, and other opportunities for both educational purposes.

  4. To work closely and support the efforts of any professional or amateur organization working to further the enhancement of the area of Sports Dentistry.

  5. To support, work together, and have liaison with the Academy for Sports Dentistry for the purpose of promoting Sports Dentistry to other health professions and the public.

  6. To continue education and research of mouthguard designs and materials.

 

Services which can be provided

  1. Development, production and presentation of lectures in the area of Sports Dentistry.

    • From 1 hour to 2 day presentations
    • Clinical and hands-on programs
    • State of the art multimedia presentations Topics to appeal to Dentists, Physicians, Trainers, Sports Therapists, Hygienists, and other Sports Medicine Fields

  2. Develop and maintain a complete data base in the area of Sports Dentistry.
    • Provide a clearing house for journals and articles in the field.
    • Full information on oral/facial protective devices.
    • Complete a mailing list of individuals with a specific interest in Sports Dentistry.
      • NBA, NCAA, NFL, MLB, CFL, NHL, MLS, ARU, ARL, AFL trainers, therapists, team dentists and team physicians
      • User list of multilaminated mouthguards
      • Academy for Sports Dentistry members
      • Other Sports dentists, hygienists, interested health professionals
    • Advise teams and leagues on the development and implementation of oral/facial protective equipment.
    • Provide athletes, teams, and health professionals with training and educational materials. Develop a technical base and standard.

  3. Develop and maintain the definitive Sports Dentistry Internet Web Site.

  4. Develop, implement and present Sports Dentistry programs to Dental Schools. Dr. Ray Padilla presently teaches a Sports Dentistry Selective Course at UCLA School of Dentistry.
